The Team at ThyssenKrupp Steel USA in Calvert, Alabama operates the newest and most technologically advanced carbon steel processing facilities in the world. We are proud of what we've accomplished and recognize the educational and public benefit of sharing this achievement and the process of modern steel manufacturing with others.
For safety considerations and to minimize disruptions to our production, tours of our facilities must be pre-approved and are limited to those that meet the criteria of providing either a substantial educational impact or a substantial impact on public understanding of our processes and industry.
General Tour Information
- Approved tours are generally scheduled on Wednesdays at a first-requested, first-approved basis during the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
- Tours should be requested with as much advanced notice as possible.
- Tours typically last 1 ½ to 2 hours and include a driving site tour of our infrastructure and logistical facilities and a walking tour of our hot strip mill, our initial process that produces coiled steel from carbon steel slabs. Tours of our other facilities can be scheduled if applicable circumstances apply.
- In order to leverage internal resources with educational outcomes, tour groups should contain a minimum of 5 people unless otherwise approved.
- Tour groups of more than 12 people will be required to provide their own bus/van tour transportation.
- For safety reasons, individuals must be 16 years of age or older to tour our facilities.
- Tour groups must comply with our stringent safety guidelines, which will be provided by email at the time of the tour confirmation. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include hard hat, safety glasses and other protective clothing will be furnished.
- Unless an approved exception is made, tour groups cannot consist of representatives from competitor companies.
