ThyssenKrupp Steel USA Has Begun Hiring First Hourly Employees

MOBILE, ALABAMA [June 5, 2009] ThyssenKrupp Steel USA, LLC today announced that an area Satsuma resident from the Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) pre-employment training program was offered and accepted the first of roughly 1,000 hourly positions expected to be filled over the next year as the carbon steel processing company moves closer to its scheduled production startup in spring of 2010. The first hired hourly team members will not only assist with operations when the plant begins production, but will more immediately help the company train new hires as they join the company over the next year.

“This is just as important a milestone for us as erecting the first structural steel on our hot strip mill,” said Scott Posey, Director of Communication. “For the past year and a half, with the help of Alabama Industrial Development Training, we’ve been recruiting and interviewing hundreds of talented applicants to fill the positions that will operate and maintain this state-of-the-art facility we’re building. It’s been a long process, but we’re now at the point where it’s time to bring these new team members into the family.”

During the next 18 months, in addition to salaried positions, the company expects to fill approximately 1000 hourly positions in operations and maintenance. The company also expects that a majority of these positions will be filled by area applicants. “Along with the business we’ve been able to give to hundreds of local and state companies, the fact that we will be putting over a thousand people from this region to work in long term, well paying, safe and challenging jobs despite the current economic climate is one positive impact of this project we are especially proud of,” said Posey.

Online applications for hourly employment with ThyssenKrupp Steel USA are currently being taken online through AIDT at www.aidt.edu, and the company is encouraging those that have not yet applied, but are interested in doing so, to submit their information. Applicants interested in salaried positions may submit their resumes to the company online at the company’s website, www.thyssenkruppsteelusa.com.
