Statement by ThyssenKrupp Steel USA President and CEO Bob Soulliere Regarding the Loss of ThyssenKrupp Board Member Erich Heine

MOBILE, ALABAMA [June 2, 2009] ThyssenKrupp Steel AG in Duisburg, Germany has confirmed that Executive Board Member Erich Heine and ThyssenKrupp Steel employee Claus-Peter Hellhammer were passengers on Air France Flight 447 which crashed in flight from Brazil to Paris. ThyssenKrupp Steel USA President and CEO Bob Soulliere issued the following statement on this tragic event: “We are shocked and saddened by the dramatic events of the last two days that have taken the lives of two ThyssenKrupp family members.

In his role as the ThyssenKrupp board member responsible for the primary oversight of our project here in Alabama and the related project in Brazil, Erich Heine provided us with valuable direction and personal leadership. Through his frequent visits to Alabama, the latest only two weeks ago, he was deeply engaged in our project and became a warm familiar face to every member of our team as well as to our public leaders in Montgomery and locally in the Mobile area. Erich’s commitment to our project and its long-term strategy were key to our initial successes. This commitment will continue to motivate and live on in the Alabama team that he led and supported.

Our thoughts and prayers will remain with both men and their families during the very difficult months ahead.”
